This category contains example proposals to modernize, clarify or update existing legislative provisions. The final version should identify the affected Act, describe what is changing and why, and explain any preliminary assessment of potential impacts on Indigenous Peoples.

Proposal 1: Modernized terminology and process
What is currently in place: The Act uses terminology and administrative processes developed under an earlier legislative or program context.
Proposed change: The proposal would update selected terms, references or processes to improve clarity and consistency.
Why it is being considered: The change is being considered to remove outdated references and make the legislation easier to administer and understand.
Preliminary consideration for Indigenous Peoples: NRCan is considering whether wording or process changes could have substantive or unintended effects on Indigenous Peoples, rights holders, agreements, participation or access.
Proposal 2: Reporting and administrative updates
What is currently in place: Existing provisions prescribe specific administrative or reporting steps.
Proposed change: The proposal would streamline or clarify selected requirements while maintaining core accountability objectives.
Why it is being considered: The change is being considered to reduce unnecessary administrative complexity and improve consistency with current federal practices.
Preliminary consideration for Indigenous Peoples: Potential considerations may include transparency, access to information, consultation expectations, implementation capacity and any effects on existing relationships or commitments.
